IMPERFECTIONS

I’m Perfectly Imperfect!!!

I posted this on IG and FB today: “We ALL have moments, days, weeks or seasons when life feels really hard. Please… take care of you. Make yourself a priority. Check in with a trusted friend or family member. Journal. Sit in the peace of nature and let your mind wander. Hug your pet. Try to find comfort in the fact that you are never alone and this season will pass. 💕💕💕”

I am just coming out of one of those “seasons”. I lost 10 people, 1 dog and a 20 year relationship all in a span of 9 months. With the loss of interactions and connects through COVID, that 9 month period was ALOT. I no longer trusted that the people I cared for would be there tomorrow. Everything I thought was my life I questioned. I was heartbroken, and couldn’t find my way forward.

Luckily I have some amazing friends who watched me ugly cry endlessly. I have beautiful children and grandchildren who reminded me of how blessed I am. I learned to take baby steps with self care and prioritizing myself. I became aware of the mind chatter we all have and how sometimes that story mixes with the facts and can make a situation worse. I took help when it was offered. I needed to relearn resilience. And I found that we ALL have something we struggle with (or had it or will have). And we all can learn to change our mindset and be reminded of all we can be grateful for.

One thing I did not pay attention to was my yearly doctor appointment. I blew off my last one and made an appointment to get my prescriptions renewed. I had to get blood work done and found out my hormones were really low. Even though I was on HRT, what had worked fine 5 years ago was not working any longer. My doctor told me this could very much be contributing to my blue moods. I have been on my new prescriptions for 2 weeks now and I feel so much better!

When those moments, days, weeks or seasons come (and they will!), make yourself your priority. Pay attention to everything going on: your diet (both food and consumption of media), getting outside in sunshine, staying in touch with supportive family and friends, finding community to support you, and getting a checkup. When you feel good, you think better and it is so much easier to form a positive mindset. Once your mindset is right and your support system is in place, there is nothing you can’t handle.
