Salties Out For A Run

So inspired by all the beauty here in Arizona.  Outside of the things most people have seen pictures of (the Grand Canyon, Sedona, our beautiful sunsets), there are little known things of nature that go under the radar.  This is one of them and I am OBSESSED. This painting of Salt River Wild Horses was inspired by a photographer's beautiful work documenting them trotting through the desert in their band.  I could not wait to start this painting! Not wanting to copy the photo, I imagined the movement in the sky that was copied in the manes and tails of these beautiful animals.  The dust they kicked up was sort of like a puffy magic carpet moving them along.  In the second photo you can see that I have done a rough brush of a metallic silver paint.  The purpose is that the new owner could opt out of having an expensive custom frame made, but rather hang this "gallery style" with the metallic sides exposed.
